DJ Cull presents January Jams

It's the last day of January so here's a mix of the tracks I've listened to most this month. Hopefully I'll do one every month and then it will make the selection of my 'Best Of 2017' tracks much easier at the end of the year! Here's the tracklisting:

Austerity Audio 2015.3

The third instalment of Austerity Audio for 2015 is finally here! What more could you want at Easter than 10 prime slices of new music (apart from a vomit-inducing quantity of chocolate eggs)?

As usual, all of the tracks are available for free and legal download from the internet (you might have to rummage around for some of them, but that's part of the fun). If you find something that you really like then all we ask is that in return for this lovely free mixtape you buy a track or two from one of the artists involved. That way they make a crust and can keep producing lovely music for us all. To download the mixtape just right click on the image above and 'save as', or left click on it to listen to it first. Here's the tracklisting:

1. Fluida - Deep Down (Dub)
2. Tame Impala - Let It Happen
3. Roger Sellers - Waves (Corduroi Remix)
4. Ratking - (Steep Tech (Feat. Despot & Princess Nokia)
5. Rome Fortune+ Ceej - Blacktop
6. Deech - Hi-end Babe
7. Outfit - Genderless
8. Ibeyi - Ghosts
9. Buddy Banter - I Miss You
10. Torres - Strange Hellos

Austerity Audio 2015.1

Time caught up with me a bit towards the end of last year and I didn't always get round to posting the Austerity Audio mixtapes / podcasts / whatever you want to call them. But 2015 is here and we're BACK! I hereby promise to post at least one of these a month to keep you supplied with the best in new music.

Anyway, the rules haven't changed, but if you're new to this then here's what we do. I gather together the best in free (legal) downloads and put them all together in on handy mixtape for you. You download said mixtape (by right-clicking on the picture above) and listen to ten of the best new tracks. Then, if there's something you really like, you gather together a few pence / cents and buy a track or two from that artist, so they can afford to keep making lovely music for us. Everybody wins! There's no music snobbery and no specific genres here - if it's good it goes into the mix. Here's the tracklist for this one:

1. Siskiyou - Deserter
2. Crash Island - Time To Move On
3. Sam Duckworth - 1989
4. Closer - XYMBOL 01
5. Red Pill - All Of Us (prob. by Apollo Brown)

7. Option Command - Burst
8. Aphex Twin - Diskhat ALL Prepared1mixed [snr2mix]
9. Matt Emery - Effervescent
10. Low Low Low La La La Love Love Love - Stop Spinning The Birdcage

New mixtape: 2013 - The Memory Mix

Lovingly compiled over the past few weeks, this is a summation of my musical year. I've collected a host of tracks that represent my favourite singles and albums, bands I saw live, stuff I bought on Record Store Day and things that have made an impression on me in 2013. In terms of structure, there's no order other than the order in which I thought they sounded best! Of course, it's not just thrown together, so it's no coincidence that Arcade Fire (with David Bowie on backing vocals & produced by James Murphy) follows Murphy's remix of Bowie's track. Or that the Serafina Steer track (produced by Jarvis Cocker) comes after Pulp's 'After You'. You can listen via Mixcloud below or (if you promise not to tell anyone) scroll down to the bottom of the page to download the whole mix for free.

Choice Cuts #1 2013

DJ Cull's Choice Cuts #1 by Dj Cull on Mixcloud

For the new year I thought I'd mix up my new music mixtapes a bit, so this year you can expect to get a wider range of music genres. And while they'll still be mostly new music, there'll be the odd track here and there that I might have just discovered (or rediscovered). Basically they'll be a pretty good reflection of what I'm listening to the most right now. So this week alongside the new stuff there's a classic track from Neu!, a band I heard for the first time only a few months ago, but whose influences I can spot in a lot of the music I like, not least the Beak> track that precedes them on this mixtape.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the new format, let me know if you've got any feedback or want any more information on any of the tracks. Press on the play button above to listen, here's the listing:

1. Kyle Bent - Intro

11. Neu! - Hallo Gallo
