With a new album due out in the Spring, long-time DFA artist Shit Robot has unleashed this hypnotic, driving track which is matched with a suitably driving video. I love tracks like this that gradually build layer upon layer of instruments, this is exactly how I like to put things together when I'm making remixes.
It all bodes well for a classic new Shit Robot album this year.

Remix of the Day: 'Rainbow (Club)' by Romare
Out on Monday, this epic new version of one of the standout tracks on 'Projections' keeps the funky bassline but updates the 70s disco tribute to fit in today's clubs. I love the little snatches of piano at the start, the way the track builds with hints of vocals and then the bass kicks in to get you strutting across the floor. Take a listen below.

Track of the Day: 'XYMBOL 01' by Closer

If you've ever sat in an idle moment and wondered what would happen if you crossed The Stone Roses, The Happy Mondays and 'Pull Up To The Bumper' by Grace Jones, then wonder no more. The brilliant new track by Closer sounds like all of that and more, topping things off with a hint of Lo-Fidelity Allstars and one or two more acts from the Skint Label. It's full of energy, is bags of fun, and you can download it for free below. Grab it now!

Remix of the Day: 'Soft As Rain (MCFERRDOG Remix)' by Dan Bodan
Another one of those situations where I've never heard the original version, but the remix is so good I don't really need to. I love the '80s-sounding sampled vocals behind Dan's amazing voice, the ticking rhythms and then the deep bass that comes in after three minutes or so. A few minutes later the percussion drops away and it comes a more emotional beast, before a final shuffle on the dancefloor at the end. Even better, you can get it for free courtesy of DFA Records so have a listen and download it below.

Recommended music: 'Redinho' by Redinho
It's taken me a while to work out if I like this record or not, but now I've decided that I really really do it's time to write about it.
Three years in the making, Redinho's brand of cyber-funk may be a bit too retro for some people's tastes, but there's no denying that he does what he does very well. In this age of trying to disguise the use of auto-tune and hiding vocal tweaking, it's great to hear full-on Zapp-style Roger Troutman talk-box vocals. It's not just restricted to 70s throwbacks either - 'Going Nowhere' seems to have borrowed the major part of the bassline from early 80s smash 'I Found Lovin'' by The Fatback Band. And if you're of a certain age (i.e. mine!) and you can listen to album opener 'Stinger' without thinking of 'Ride Like The Wind' by Christopher Cross I'll be very surprised.
It's not all retro though - 'Say I Want You' could easily be by one of the new breed of electonic artists like Gold Panda or Koreless, and the skittery sounds of 'Searching' would never never have been acceptable in the 70s. Throughout the album there are layers and layers of sounds and harmonised vocals built up on each other that reward repeated listening and ensure that there's always something new here to sink your teeth into.
'Redinho' is out now on Numbers Records.

Track of the Day: 'Can't Do Without You' by Caribou
The first time I listened to this track, about 5 minutes ago, it literally put a smile on my face. At around 2 minutes 50 seconds in I could feel myself beaming. I've just listened to it again and exactly the same thing happened - see if it happens for you.
This is the first track from the next Caribou album 'Our Love' which will be out in the first week of October. Dan Snaith seems to have taken the best bits of Caribou and sprinkle on just a bit more of the disco dust from his Daphni alter-ego. The result is an absolutely massive tune that's destined to soundtrack the summer.

Remix of the Day: 'Chloroform (Gopher & Devin Remix)' by Phoenix
The perfect way to get your daily fix of French 'je ne sais quoi', especially if you also have a penchant for robots (and who doesn't?). No need to get your Euros out either as this is a free download - it makes the perfect amuse bouche for their album 'Bankrupt'

Remix of the Day: 'Shelter Song (Leftside Wobble Rocks The Discoteque Mix)' by Temples
Very much in the vein of the Time & Space Dubs of Jagwar Ma's album last year, this mix pretty much manages to include sounds and vibes from every decade since the '60s. It's psychedelia via the disco via the warehouse rave via the club, and it's really rather ace. The icing on the cake is that you can grab it as a free download until the vinyl comes out on Heavenly Recording in a few weeks. You can listen to it and download it for free below, just make sure you play it loud!

Track of the Day: 'I Try To Talk To You' by Hercules & Love Affair
Featuring the wonderful voice of Mr John Grant, this track is taken from the forthcoming Hercules & Love Affair album 'The Feast of the Broken Heart' which will be out in May. The song has already gained some degree of notoriety, as Grant tackles the subject of becoming HIV positive in the lyrics. Happily, despite the weighty themes, it's a pretty upbeat track, with a brilliant flourish of piano bringing a hint of disco camp to the proceedings. Following on from Grant's 'Pale Green Ghosts' album, this is another step down the road to him becoming the disco diva we all know he is deep inside.

Track of the Day: 'Blame Game (Sau Poler Remix)' by Favored Nations
Favored Nations are a trans-Pacific trio making sun-drenched dance music for discerning disco lovers. This remix of their current single 'Blame Game' from Barcelona resident Sao Poler steps up the samba rhythms and creates a confection of Balearic beats. It's hard to imagine any sort of summertime activity to which this wouldn't be a great soundtrack. Highly recommended for your pool party or beach BBQ, you can listen to the track or download it for free below.
